Trigonometry Project Wiki page

Trigonometry is typically taught in the tenth grade. Over the past few weeks, we have explored the basic trigonometric functions and how to use the functions to find missing side lengths or angle measurements of right triangles. But this is only "scratching the surface."

For this project you will research how trigonometry is used in the "real world."

1) How is trigonometry used in my chosen field?

2) What have I learned about trigonometry that I didn't know before?

3) What questions do I have about trigonometry or how its used in my chosen field?

For example
Geodesy is a field of scientific and mathematical study that deals with "measurement and representations of earth."

One application for geodesy is in the building of geodesic domes. Geodesic domes are formed from many repeated triangles. Each triangle is made up of "hollow struts" with "flanges" and one or two sheets that are secured to the struts. Thomas J. Smrt patented the geodesic dome design structure in 1975

More specifically, geodesic domes can be used to build geodesic greenhouses. Geodesic dome greenhouses can be used in developing countries as "a low cost and practical solar energy drying system."
